October 5 - Barcelona

Barcelona

Our day in Barcelona began with a tour of the Park Guell.  Antoni Gaudi was hired to design this area as a home for wealthy people.

Park Guell

The designs of the Park are unique and blend with the natural landscape of the hills on which the park is build.  Guaid used recycled materials in many places.  The famous mosaic salamander is one example.

Sagrada Familia

We went the the famous Sagrada Familia.  This is an unfinished Roman Catholic church designed by Antoni Gaudi.  Construction of the Basilica began in 1882.  Gaudi took over as chief architect in 1883 and devoted the remainder of his life to the project.  The church has been built entirely from private donations (no government or church money).  The Basilica continues under construction and is expected to be completed in 2026 ... the hundredth anniversary of Gaudi's death.  The renderings within the Cathedral have been prepared by many artists.  The cathedral is huge and very impressive.

Following our tour of the Sagrada Familia we boarded the Vision of the Seas
----
Our home for the next several days.

Overnight we sailed to Cannes, France.
