We left early (7:30) this morning to complete our research in Michigan and to get into Ohio.
Our first stop was at the Springville, Michigan Cemetery. This is a small cemetery in southern Michigan. (It took us almost 2 1/2 hours to get there from our hotel ... Detroit traffic). Bonnie's 4th great-grandparents Benjamin and Nancy Howard are buried there (under a big bush).
Our next stop was a short drive to Adrian, Michigan where we visited the Lenowee County Historical Museum and Archives.
This museum has MANY artifacts and items from the area including one of 3 surviving Adrian Lion automobiles. One exhibit that Kent enjoyed is the early dental equipment.
Bonnie had some excellent help from the volunteers (Diane Mills is pictured here).
After leaving Adrian we arrived in Sylvania Ohio.
Please note the Welcome To ... sign below ... it seems we had a photographer operator malfunction in getting the whole sign welcoming us to Ohio.
Our first stops in Ohio were at the Toledo Memorial Park & Cemetery. Bonnie's great-grandparents Otto and Rachael (Otto's 2nd wife) Heyneman are buried here.
We then stopped at the Forest Cemetery where we were unable to locate the grave markers for Caroline Heyneman (Otto's 1st wife) and others.
We then drove to the home where Otto and Caroline lived on Tunnel Street in the early 1900's.
We then stopped in Norwalk, Ohio at the Huron County Library where Kent was seeking additional information about Fairchild ancestors who lived in Ohio in the 1820's. The visit confirmed that there are minimal records available for the family at this time period and place.
We arrived at our hotel (Residence Inn) just south of Cleveland at 7:30.
A long day ... the weather was pleasant and the drive was uneventful ... but the company was a delight.
