January 18 - On to Johnson County

We left the hotel around 9 am (temperature still in the mid-teens) and drove to Cleburne.

We went to the historic old courthouse.  There we were able to locate records for the property of Daniel Richard (DR) Brown and Theodore Theophilus (TT) Brown.  DR is Bonnies great grandfather and TT is her grandfather.  DR owned a fair amount of land in Johnson County.  TT and wife Josie purchased their property from DR.
Bonnie also stopped at the Clerk’s office to find marriage, birth and death records.  We then spend some time in the Johnson County Museum that is in the courthouse.  We were able to find some cemetery records and the name and address of Charles Weatherby in nearby Alvarado.

Bonnie went to the Assessor’s office to learn where TT’s property is in the county.  The legal description is difficult, and the clerk said she would research the information and call with more details.

We drove to Mansfield to visit the Mansfield Museum and Historical Society.  This was an interesting stop.  The man at the Museum was helpful in talking about the area, the development of the area.  He provided information about the cemeteries we were to visit later.

Our next stop was the Mansfield Cemetery.  We walked the cemetery looking for the grave marker for Mary E. Stewart, wife of JW Stewart.  Mary is the sister of TT Brown.  This took some time to talk the cemetery looking for the marker … also it got colder as the time went on.

We had lunch at IHOP in Mansfield and then drove on to the Weatherby property.  No one was home and Bonnie left a note.

We then drove to the Cope Cemetery and located the graves of DR and Mary Susan Potter Brown.

We drove on home and arrived there around 5:30 pm.  At the hotel in the evening.  Dinner from Sonic.
